J. Thomas Lowry was born in South Carolina.  Though he was but a lad of 11, Mr. Lowry delighted in the nomination of Ronald Reagan in 1980.  It was an awakening from a dreadful sleep for America.  His initial political reading was God and Man at Yale by William F. Buckley and he has since been a devoted fan of the founder of the National Review.

Mr. Lowry served in the United States Navy as a submariner and has worked for local government in various positions.  He served on several national committees to enhance fire protection and create standards for building construction and collapse, has been published in various journals on fire engineering, and serves as a freelance writer.  Mr. Lowry is currently working on a book of conservative political thought while pursuing history.  His plans are to write and teach at the college level.  Painfully shy, Lowry loves to communicate via the written word; though he is a nightmare to would-be grammar experts, he delights in the study of the English language.

Not one to buy into liberal philosophy, Lowry traces his conservatism back to Edmund Burke, for whom he has the highest regard.  The path then winds its way down to John Adams, John Jay, Benjamin Disraeli, F. A. Hayek, WFB, Whittaker Chambers, Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, George Will, Robert George, Jeremy Rabkin and Antonin Scalia.

Mr. Lowry is a passionate opponent of expanded government, social engineering, socialism, judicial activism and extremism.  He is a defender of the men and women who serve America and has a special place in his heart for the military.  The willingness to be critical of policy, no matter who puts it forth, is a duty.  That is why he is a fan of Kathleen Parker and H. L. Mencken.

Lowry lives with his wife, a cardiac researcher, and their cats and dogs.  They enjoy travel, laughter, Yo-Yo Ma, Jude, and nice hotels with a working remote.
